The Mystery of Grace

“I do not understand the mystery of grace — only that it meets us where we are and does not leave us where it found us.”

Anne Lamott

Giving yourself grace is like allowing yourself wear a life vest when you're struggling to stay afloat in rough waters. Just as a life vest provides support and keeps you from drowning, giving yourself grace provides the emotional support you need to stay afloat during challenging times.

When we are struggling, it's easy to become overwhelmed by negative thoughts and emotions, which can make our struggles feel even more challenging

Giving grace can be a powerful way to build stronger and more positive relationships with ourself and others. Grace is a source of goodness, compassion, and love that can lift us up and help us through the challenging times.

Practice:

Journal Prompt

Remember a time when you were struggling or feeling uncomfortable emotions. How did you respond to yourself? Did you offer yourself compassion and support, or were you self-critical and judgmental?

Now imagine that you could go back to that moment and offer yourself grace instead. What would that look like? How might you respond to yourself with kindness, compassion, and understanding?

Take some time to reflect on how you can give yourself grace in this moment. What words of kindness can you offer to yourself? How can you treat yourself with greater care and understanding?

Write down your thoughts and reflections.
